Terrorism can be viewed as an effective tool used by many groups for reaching their goals. Al-Qa’ida is a terrorist group which has been in existence for several decades and, despite being opposed by the United States, still manages to remain active. Al-Qa’ida constitutes a network of radicals whose ultimate goal is the creation of an Islamic caliphate (Al-Qa’ida, n.d.). The organization’s preferred terrorist method involves detonating explosives and conducting bombings in public areas. Through such actions, the group seeks to demonstrate its power and attract new followers around the world. The organization often partners with less radical movements in the Middle East, such as the Taliban, since they share the same agenda. Al-Qa’ida’s longevity and notoriety are a testament to the effectiveness of its activities.
Terrorism is a threat to global security, which all countries must recognize and address using all possible means. Nevertheless, organizations such as Al-Qa’ida remain active even despite facing pressure from the international community and are able to perform their attacks. Al-Qa’ida demonstrates an example of a network of radical individuals who have managed to gain popularity and continue to pursue their goals.
